Quarter round molding is pretty common stuff. And it is fine, in its place. Which is mostly along the periphery of walls.

There is, however, another place that it gets used which is not OK. Well, it’s fine for the fully abled of this world but not for those of us rolling around the house. That is along thresholds.

Often, when the flooring of one room is different from the flooring of another, as in our kitchen (vinyl) and the rest of the house (hardwood), there is a height differential. And a common solution for bridging that difference is quarter round.

It’s a perfectly reasonable solution … if you are walking. It is an amazingly tall barrier if you are in a wheelchair. On wheels you really need something that is a longer wedge, lower slope. I only expect to be using a wheelchair a couple more weeks. If it were significantly longer, I know two pieces that would be quickly replaced.
