Apparently ‘The Laurels’ is an SNF. A Skilled Nursing Facility. This Seems to be a rank below ‘Rehab Facility’ and a rank above ‘Nursing Home’. Nice enough place, especially if you are severely physically limited. LIke, having both of your legs immobilized.
Most everyone here is looking forward to going home, though it is hard to get definition of when or even ‘what do I have to achieve?’. Apparently discharge is a function of a committee (Drs, nurses, social services, therapists, etc.). Which means, among other things, you have to find a date where they are all present to have the meeting.
Therapy (for me, at least) is mostly upper body strength and flexibility plus standing me up in a walker. MY left leg can support weight but not bend, so I can move around in the walker, but I cannot get from sitting to standing and back. I walked about 300 feet today.
This is a picture of one corner of the Therapy Room. The big green platform figures in much of my therapy but I am mostly amused by the stack of balls in the corner. In a previous incarnation the top one had a face. Cute.
There is one section of this place I haven’t yet had a chance to use. I have great hopes that after tomorrow’s appointment with surgeon that I will be allowed to use the shower room. (No, I won’t post pics.)
Food is quite decent here. But no seconds. Apparently my appetite is returning.
